Where is your focus?

I had a little inspiration for today’s post but it is something that has been on my mind lately. Where is your focus? We tend to let so many in our lives distract us, re direct our attention, make us loose focus on what is important. Some of these things can be social media, hurting marriages, broken relationships, sports, work, family and the list can go on and on. Things go wrong in our lives and we focus on the problems and not the solutions. Some of the things we focus on are really not that important a lot of the times. As people there are times we hold onto things that God never intended us to hold onto. Other times we tend to get so busy that we just plain forget to focus on what is important. The last one is a trap I have fallen into more than a few times in my life.

The bible tells us that God should come first in our lives. That we should focus on our relationship with Him. At times do we really put Him first? Is our relationship with Him our priority? Do we let the things in our lives blur our focus of who God is, what He can do, what He is doing as well as what He wants to do through us in our lives? If we loose focus of Jesus like it shows in the passage your about to read bible things do not go as we hope most of the time.

Matthew 14:28-31 “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”

Peter in the passage above is called by Jesus to come out of the boat and walk to Him on the water. Peter starts to but then he takes his eyes of Jesus and loses focus of Jesus and starts to sink. We will always have troubles in this world like the bible tells us. Everything will not always be peaches and rainbows. I will say by experience that if you stay focused on Jesus. Stay focused on who He is and what He is doing in your life things will be much easier to deal with. He will set your path straight. So that relationship that is broken, that marriage that is hurting or any number of the other things we have going on in our lives Jesus can handle because He is much bigger than our problems. Everything in our lives should revolved around Jesus. If you keep your focus on Jesus and live your life according to His will things will turn out better then you expected. #plainandsimple

Don’t miss what is right in front of you!

“And let the peace of Christ, to which you were also called in one body, rule your hearts. And be thankful.” Colossians‬ ‭3:15‬

“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” James‬ ‭1:17‬

It has been a little while since we have posted sorry for the delay. We have had crazy month. and now we can start getting back to a semi normal routine little by little. So at the end of April we decided to sell the house we were in for almost 6 years for find something that fit our family needs better. That started a storm of all kinds of things to deal with almost everyday. We had to go through the selling process. That was stressful but we sold our house in one weekend. Then we had to make any repairs that the inspections what fixed. They weren’t a lot but it was still stuff added to our plate. Then we had to start looking for houses. We looked at like 20 houses. Some were ok, some were horrible. There were about 4 that were beautiful but did not fit what we needed. We were getting discouraged. One of the last houses we looked at needed work but we saw the potential. It fit what we needed. Bigger yard, driveway, bigger kitchen etc.. So we took the leap and made an offer. Stressed for a little less than a week but we found out our offer got excepted. We were over joyed. Fast forward to move in day. We do the walk through and realize there was an issue that needed to be handled immediately before we could set the living room up. Not only were we overwhelmed with everything else but not had to deal with this on top of all those other things. We get the house with the moving truck and started work right away. I along with some help spent the first three days in the living room to eliminate to pressing issue.

I only go into this story to tell you what is on my heart today. I was overwhelmed with everything going on and everything we had to do. So I was getting frustrated at times and treating people rudely and it was unnecessary. All while they are helping us and some also trying to navigate everything that is overwhelming them. While doing a lot of work for those first three days I took a break to relax for a minute. I went into the back yard and was just standing around watching my granddaughter run, yell and clap in her new backyard. In that moment I got choked up and started tearing up. I looked at her and God flooded me with a peace that clamed my heart in all of the chaos. All of the work and all of the stress causes us to miss what is right in front of us. Just because we are going through something does not mean that the joys and blessings disappear. Everything we went through for those first few days does not take away all the joys that are around us. God blesses us everyday. Take time in the midst of the chaos to be thankful and not miss what is right in front of you.

Do your part!!

We are in a time where there are many different disagreements that come up about all sorts of things. Do not get me wrong, we do not have to always agree with each other, but disagreeing with someone and doing the wrong thing are two completely different things. We have to keep in mind that we are called to love one another. Am I right? So with that command, sometimes we have to do things we may not want to do because it is the right thing to do. This may also be what needs to be done in order to show love in that moment or situation.

It states in the Bible, “If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.” James‬ ‭4:17‬. So based on this verse it is going against God and His word to not do the good that we see the world needs. That does not give many adults a way out because we all know right from wrong. I know some will see this and say who dictates what is right and what is wrong. Well you might not believe in your heart and mind what I do, but we all know how we feel inside when something is right or wrong. This is the Holy Spirit telling you not to do something. Whether you listen to that feeling or not is a whole different issue to take up with yourself. The Bible is also a guide book that can answer those questions as well.

My whole point is we are all in the same position. At times we have to do things we don’t want to do so others feel safe, so we can be the example Jesus set, or simply to just show love like we are called to do.

Don’t give into the Chaos!

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” John‬ ‭14:27‬

There are seasons of life that seem to be so overwhelming that we give into the confusion and chaos around us. We start to worry about things that aren’t happening. “Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” Matthew‬ ‭6:27‬. We can’t add to our life by worrying. As a matter of fact we take from our lives by worrying because we miss out due to being focused on the chaos.

I have good news Jesus has got you. This is what He tells us in the book of John. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” John‬ ‭14:27‬. Jesus gives us the peace we need to get through the chaos and confusion. Not the kind of stuff the world promises. His peace is so much better. Lean on Jesus! Accept His promise of peace especially in the times of life that you can’t handle.

If you don’t have a relationship with Jesus today would be a great day to pray that prayer and accept Him into your heart. If you would like help with that or have any questions please feel free to message us.

Be Blessed, Dave

Don’t let it hold you down!!

“What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭8:31‬

“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” Exodus‬ ‭14:14‬

At times we deal with things in life that we cannot figure out. Things that we cannot solve. Circumstances go wrong. People hurt us. Jobs are not going well. Finances disappear as fast as they come in. We can react a few different ways when they happen. You can get angry and be mad at the world and everyone around you when really they had nothing to do with it. You can get sad and depressed and act like your life is over and nothing will ever get better. Lastly, you can do what I did and hold it all in, let everything that is happening weigh down on your shoulders until you start taking it out on your life and the people in your life. You will get easily agitated with them and the things going on around you which does not help and usually makes things worse.

But wait, there is one more thing you can do and that is stand on God’s word and realize that He has your back.

“What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?” Romans‬ ‭8:31‬.

“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” Exodus‬ ‭14:14‬

Nothing that we go through is bigger than God. He has got our back and will give us the strength we need to overcome. He will fight for us!! Rejoice in the fact that we might have big problems, but we have an even bigger God!!!

Why be afraid!

Everyone has some kind of fear at times. We all go through things in life that cause us to be afraid. We all go through things in life that scare us. They are human reactions to a lot of stuff in this world today. So if you are going through something that is causing you to be afraid do not think less of yourself. God gives us ways to work through these things. Sometimes He gives us people to help us through. People in our lives to love on us and to talk through what is causing us to be afraid. Helping us look at things differently to help us be less afraid about what is going on. Most of all God created us to not fear or be afraid. Like the verse says above He created us not with a Spirit of fear or being timid but with a spirit of power, love and self discipline.

When we believe in and pray for Jesus to be our savior God fills us with the Holy Spirit. The same Spirit that lived in Jesus. The same Spirit that raised people from the dead. The same Spirit that healed people. The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead. Looking at it in that way, answer this, How can you be afraid? How can you be frightened?

Pray for God to fill you with His Spirit so you can see things the way God sees them.

What good does it do?

Let’s face it we all do it at one time or another. Some of us way more than most. We worry about almost everything in our life. Work, finances, health, family and the list can go on and on. Honestly what good does it do us. Worry stresses us out. It can cause us physical harm if we worry enough like headaches, stomach aches etc…

What would it be like to be worry free. What would it be like to realize that we do not have control over anything anyway. To realize that God is the one who has everything in His hands and if we surrender to His will for our lives and live in obedience the best we can He will take care of all of it anyway. Easier said than done right.

Well the above verse tells us that worry adds nothing to our life. To me that plain and simple tells us there is no point to worrying about anything. Surrender to the fact that we might go through issues in life. People in our life my get sick. They might get hurt. Some might even pass away. Surrender to the fact that we might never get answers to why those things happen. But whatever the case may be we have to remember that we live in a broken and sin filled world. The hope we have is that God is in control and if we obey His commands he will make our paths straight.

God has got it all under control. He knows what we need better than we do. So He has got our back.

New Year New You!

As we welcome 2021 in hopes of a better year than the last I was sitting here writing a journal entry. The thing that was put on my heart was we all look to a new year as a new start. We try to find a way to create a better version of ourselves. We make exercise plans, diet plans, budgets to get a hold of our finances and on and on. Does any of these things really change our hearts? Does any of these things really change our attitudes? Most likely in most cases they do not.

There is hope. All the things I mentioned above are great things to have in your life but God gives us the one true thing that can make us new. He gave us His son Jesus. When we invite Jesus into our lives He can make us new! He can help you make the old things disappear whatever those bad habits, bad attitudes or brokenness might be. Sometimes instantly, sometimes it might take time. Just allow Him to give you the strength to accomplish it and it will happen. Just ask Jesus into your life.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” 2 Corinthians‬ ‭5:17‬

When you decide to accept Jesus into your life do not try to walk your new life of faith alone. Find other Christians or a good bible teaching church to help you in your new journey. Start a bible reading plan to dig deeper into God’s word to find God’s will for your life. It will be the best decision you ever made.

Storms will come!

“One day Jesus said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side of the lake.” So they got into a boat and set out. As they sailed, he fell asleep. A storm came down on the lake, so that the boat was being swamped, and they were in great danger. The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!” He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm. “Where is your faith?” he asked his disciples. In fear and amazement they asked one another, “Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him.”” Luke‬ ‭8:22-25‬

We live in a world where storms will come. Sometimes they will be little and will not last long or cause too much trouble. Could be just a quick lesson we will learn from. Sometimes those storms will be so big and overwhelming you will think to yourself, how am I going to get through this? Do not get discouraged, we have all been there in life. Sometimes your vision gets blurred and you cannot see through the storm to the other side and it is scary. Other times you realize God is allowing the storm to refine you or teach you something. Do not get me wrong, even if that is the case it does not make it any easier to go through.

I am here to tell you that there is good news. In the verse above, Jesus stood up and calmed the storm when the disciples woke Him up and brought it to His attention. All we need to do is humble ourselves. Get on our knees and pray to Jesus to help us. Ask Him to calm the storm. He might even help you understand what we are supposed to get out of what is going on.

Grace is an Unconditional Gift

“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is perfected in weakness.” Therefore, I will most gladly boast all the more about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may reside in me.” 2 Corinthians‬ ‭12:9‬

“He himself is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours, but also for those of the whole world.” 1 John‬ ‭2:2‬

Tonight while sitting talking with Dave, I was reminded how grateful I am for the gift of Grace. See Grace is a gift given to all of us by God when He sent his only son to die on a cross. The most amazing thing about this gift, it came with no conditions. God didn’t say “I’ll forgive you for certain sins but for some you will not be forgiven. “ God said ALL SINS are forgiven when you pray the prayer of salvation and ask for forgiveness!!

Sin comes in many different shapes and sizes. Taking the life of a human being is a sin in the same sense as telling a lie. Stealing from your neighbor is the same as coveting what that same neighbor has. Lusting after someone who is not your spouse is the same as committing adultery. I think you get the point.

So when someone sins against us we have two choices: 1)we can hold a grudge against them and treat them like they are an outcast or 2) we can show them love and grace like is shown to us each and every single day by God.

You see Grace is the most incredible gift you can offer another human being. To be able to be like Jesus; as he was being persecuted and bleeding on a cross; He still said “forgive them father for they know not what they do!” How amazing is that?! That is a gift that I know I personally thank God for every night when I lay my head on the pillow, because I am far from perfect and I know I mess up daily. Without God’s Grace I don’t know where I would be and truthfully I don’t even want to think about it.

So this Christmas season, maybe instead of looking for the most expensive gift to give someone, maybe you can offer the gifts of Grace and Forgiveness to someone who may have hurt you with their words or actions. One day over your lifetime, I am sure you will be grateful that someone offered these gifts to you.
